The so-called short-term rental bill, that is, the amendment to the Building Act, has reached the Parliament. This so-called short-term rental law is based on a phenomenon that is particularly relevant here in Rovaniemi which is the systematic short-term rental of apartments. We students are concerned because systematic short-term rental practices have led to a severe housing shortage in the city, which highly affects students. During peak tourism season, there are over 5,000 apartments in the city center of Rovaniemi without permanent residents. These apartments are likely used for short-term rentals, as there are hardly any available apartments…
