STATEMENT: Draft bill to amend the Building Act delays resolution of the student housing crisis in Rovaniemi
The so-called short-term rental bill, that is, the amendment to the Building Act, has reached the Parliament. This so-called short-term rental law is based on a phenomenon that is particularly relevant here in Rovaniemi which is the systematic short-term rental of apartments. We students are concerned because systematic short-term rental practices have led to a severe housing shortage in the city, which highly affects students. During peak tourism season, there are over 5,000 apartments in the city center of Rovaniemi without permanent residents.
