The Council of Representatives of the Student Union of the University of Lapland (LYY) elected a new Board for 2025 in its meeting on November 20, 2024.
Mariel Tähtivaara was elected as Chair of the Board. Tähtivaara is a fifth-year law student with extensive experience in student organization activities.
“It is an honor to lead our Student Union next year. I want to ensure that LYY continues to advocate strongly for students and fosters a sense of community among the students of the University of Lapland. In 2025, we will focus on promoting community, advancing advocacy efforts, and preparing for the upcoming municipal elections in the spring,” Tähtivaara states.
According to Tähtivaara, higher education institutions in Lapland, the City of Rovaniemi, and local businesses should strengthen their cooperation to enhance experience of being a student. She highlights affordable housing, increasing internship opportunities, and improving leisure activities as key areas for development.
The Council of Representatives also elected the following members to LYY’s Board for 2025:

- Eetu Markkanen, Social Sciences (Tourism Research)
- Gabriel Fiskarholm, Education (Adult Education)
- Juuso Kurokallio, Education (Primary Teacher)
- Peter Pykäläinen, Law
