Confirmation of the Executive Board’s program for 2026
At its meeting on 2/2026, the Representative Council discussed the confirmation of the Executive Board’s program. The Executive Board’s program describes as a document how the Executive Board intends to promote the objectives set out in the Action Plan and Strategy during the year. The Representative Council unanimously decided to confirm the Executive Board’s program for the year 2026. The document can be read at the Student Union office and at the files bank on the website. *

Advocacy
2.2. Meeting with FSHS –personnel
We met the Representatives of FSHS. We discussed the cooperation around the events and discussed the results of the FSHS survey conducted by LYY.
Housing survey of National Union of University Students in Finland
The National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) is surveying the housing situation of students on a Finnish-wide basis. Chair of the Executive Board (CoB) Turkia, Member of the Executive Board (BM) Aho and Specialist in Student Affairs (SSA) Ulkuniemi responded jointly to SYL’s housing survey.
9.2. Meeting with Domus Arctica -foundation
We met with the CEO and the Service Manager of the Domus Arctica -Foundation. We reviewed the up-to-date situation of student housing and future projects and discussed the cooperation to be carried out this year.
24.2. Meeting with Rotary Clubs
The board met with Rotary clubs operating in Rovaniemi. We discussed the activities of LYY and Rotary clubs. The discussion focused on students moving to Rovaniemi, housing issues, and people’s involvement in organizational activities.
27.2. Meeting with social democratic students
We met with Miku Kuuskorpi, chair of the social democratic students. We introduced him to the university, told him about LYY, and discussed topics of current interest to students in Rovaniemi. Topics of discussion included housing issues and the amount of in-person and remote teaching.
Situation picture of tutoring sector
The tutoring sector has gone through a tutor search as well as an additional one. Already the first application received good applicants, and the additional application was used to supplement the fields of study that were left over for smaller applications. Next, BM Markkanen and SSA Ulkuniemi in the tutoring sector at LYY make tutor choices in cooperation with stakeholders.
Selection of a student member as a vice-chair of the University Collegium
In its organizing meeting, the University Collegium elected student member Jesse Pöllänen as its vice-chair. The University Collegium is a body of 24 members representing all stakeholders of the University. Eight of them are professors, eight are other teachers, researchers and personnel, and eight are students. The University Collegium is the supervisory body for the University Board.

17.2. Students’ Shrove
In cooperation with Student Union ROTKO, Diverssi, Kosmos Buran and ESN Lapland, we organized a student sports Shrove. The program included a snow football match, sledding, sled tuning, and ice skating. Hot coco and buns tasted well to the attendees.
Next, we turn our attention towards RöllöWappu and its events!
Other matters
Opening seminar of National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL)
The Executive Board members and employees of LYY participated in the opening seminar of SYL in Jyväskylä. During the seminar, our office staff networked with the rest of the student movement and trained on current topics and sector-specific issues. At the seminar, we also discussed the parliamentary elections to be held soon and the related advocacy work. LYY thanks the organisers SYL, the Student Union of the University of Jyväskylä JYY and the Students of Akava.
9.2. Meeting with LYY Alumni ry
The Executive Board met with former LYY actors involved in the activities of LYY Alumni ry. We got to know each other and discussed our plans for the coming year and possible means of cooperation between the student union board and alumni for the coming year.
Two electric bikes to rent to the Wellness Pass
As a new service of the Wellness Pass, now two e-bikes are available for rent to students.
Prices per 1 bike:
With Wellness Pass 5€ / day
Without Wellness Pass 25€ / day
The bike can be rented from the LYYs service point from Monday to Wednesday (at 12–14), the rental period is 24 hours. The rent also includes a helmet. Detailed instructions will be provided when renting a bike.
Rewarding the teacher and student group of the year
At its meeting 4/2026, the Executive Board elected a teacher of the year and a student group of the year. CoB Turkia revealed the awardees at the anniversary celebration of the University of Lapland which was held today. Rudy Gambino from Language Centre was chosen as a teacher of the year and Oikeusklinikkatyöryhmä from the Faculty of Law was chosen as a student group of the year. The nominees for the teachers were collected from LYY’s members and nominees for the student group were collected from the faculties.
Annual Ball representation during February
In February, we went to represent to the 30th Annual Ball of Jalot Villit ry and 43rd Annual Ball of Lyhty ry. Thank you for the invitation and again congratulations!
Checkpoint hosting at Poronkusema
On Saturday 21st of February, Executive Board was on a checkpoint race of Poronkusema hosting its own Panic Checkpoint. There were a lot of participants, and everyone had a good vibe in the fresh open air!
