Wappu parade and the capping of Jätkä Statue, the biggest wappu spectacle in Rovaniemi! Rovaniemi’s own Jätkä steps on to the gaming board and it’s students’ time to gather around to witness the capping of the statue. This is a moment you don’t want to miss!

Welcome to the 2026 RöllöWappu grand finale. Wappu culminates in the hottest parties of the night as the lights flash, the dance floor fills up, and the bass thumps until morning. 10.4. Meeting with FSHS executive director Annika Saarikko
We met with the executive director of FSHS Annika Saarikko at the University on Friday on 10th of April together with Student Union of the Lapland University of Applied Sciences, ROTKO. We heard about the current affairs of FSHS, discussed FSHS services at the Lapland campuses, and went through the students’ current affairs.
13.4.–14.4. Social Politics sector-days of the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL)
BM Korkiakoski attended the SoPo sector days of SYL at Helsinki. The meeting included a visit to the FSHS headquarters and talks with the CEO of the FSHS, Annika Saarikko, along with a visit to the Finnish Parliament hosted by the Chair of the Finance Commitee, MP of Lapland, Markus Lohi.
15.4. UArctic –meeting at Rovaniemi
COB Turkia and BM Kaarnivuo presented the activities of the Student Union to the UArctic Board. The discussion was sparked by the differences between the student unions of different countries and the legal binding nature of the operations of the student unions in Finland.
16.4. Meeting with the city council group of the Left Alliance
We met with the Rovaniemi city council group of the Left Alliance. Topics of discussion were the incoming parliamentary election, housing politics at Rovaniemi, employment and traineeship opportunities and public transport at Rovaniemi from the perspective of students. Thank you for the meeting!
16.4.–17.4. Internationality sector days of SYL
BM Kaarnivuo attended intentionality sector days of SYL at Helsinki. The programme included a meeting with Alviina Alametsä at the Parliament Building and presentations by the City of Helsinki’s international students’ voucher, TEK, European Movement Finland and the Central Chamber of Commerce. Thanks for the great sector days!
21.4. Meeting of Life cycle network
COB Turkia attended a meeting of Life cycle network and held one of the starting speeches regarding students’ housing. The meeting brought together multiple organizations in Rovaniemi who work with people in different situations in life. There was a lot of good discussion about how the housing crisis affects different groups of people.

15.4. The patch market
Subject and hobby associations and student’s political associations of Rovaniemi higher education institutes gathered to busy main hall of the university to sell their overall patches and enjoy the feeling of soon beginning Röllöwappu!
15.4. Gameshow sits
Röllöwappu was once again opened with grand sits at the main hall of the university with theme being gameshows this year. The vibe was on the roof at the event and student wappu of Rovaniemi was opened with a bang!

The partygoers of Röllöwappu made their way to night club Doris, where music blasted throughout the night and dance floor was filled until the small hours!
21.4. Responsible vappu
Together with FSHS and the Girls’ House of Rovaniemi, BM Aho coordinated the Responsible Vappu discussion. Together with public health nurse Suvi Heinonen and sexual counsellor Pilvi Kangasniemi, we discussed issues such as consent, contraception and communication.
22.4. El Classico
The traditional friendly football match between the university and the university of applied sciences was once again played at the Central Field in the city centre, and the atmosphere did not disappoint! The stands were filled with enthusiastic supporters, and the match itself was an entertaining and closely contested battle.
Despite occasionally challenging weather conditions, the game showcased great performances, strong team spirit, and the joy of sport at its best. This time, the university claimed a 3–2 victory, but most importantly, the event was once again about coming together and enjoying a fantastic atmosphere!
Other matters
1.4. Accessibility training for actives of the associations part of LYYs association register
BM Mykkänen coordinated the accessibility training held for organisational actives. Selinä Nera kept accessibility training for organizational actives via remote connections. The training covered themes and topics related to accessibility and considered how accessibility is considered in events and the organisation of events.
7.4. Meeting with SYL-sponsor Vilma Sippola
Our SYL sponsor Vilma Sippola visited our office at the University of Lapland in early April. Vilma told us about the current themes and news of the SYL office. We introduced Vilma to our new office premises and told her about LYY’s current tasks and plans.
The facilities and real estate strategy
The University of Lapland and Lapland University of Applied Sciences are preparing a joint facilities and real estate strategy, along with an action plan (MasterPlan) to support its implementation. The aim of this work is to ensure functional campuses and facilities for all of us that meet future needs – sustainably and responsibly.

27.4. National Veteran Day’s celebration
CoB Turkia will represent LYY at the National Veterans’ Day ceremony held at Korundi House of Culture, where they will deliver a youth address. The day’s events are organized in cooperation with City of Rovaniemi, Rovaniemi Garrison, Rovaniemi Parish, as well as veteran, national defense, and student organizations.
