In its meeting on September 25, 2024, the Council of Representatives of the Student Union of the University of Lapland elected Esa-Pekka Tuppi as the new Secretary General of the Student Union, following Miikka Keränen’s transition to new duties. Tuppi, 29, is studying graphic design at the University of Lapland. He will assume the role of Secretary General after serving as LYY’s Community Specialist. He also has a background in various student and hobby organizations, having held several positions of trust. Tuppi served as Chair of the LYY Board in 2020.
There were a total of five applicants for the position of Secretary General.
“I am truly grateful to be able to continue working for our beloved community in this new role,” Tuppi says. “One constant in student union work is change. There will be much to learn, and I am eager to take on the challenges. It’s important that our smaller-than-average university has a close-knit, aware, and active student community. It’s a pleasure to work for that.”
The Secretary General is responsible for managing LYY’s finances and administrative matters, as well as serving as the supervisor of the Student Union’s paid staff.
“I wish the new Secretary General all the best and look forward to our upcoming collaboration in leading the Student Union. Esa-Pekka is no stranger to our office, and I believe he will quickly adapt to his new role,” commented the Chair of the Board Roope Rantala.
