The University of Lapland celebrates its sixth Conferment of Degrees 13.-18.5.2024. The Conferment of Degrees is an event where master’s degrees, doctor’s degrees, and honorary doctorates are awarded to the participants.

Student heralds play a significant role in the proceedings of this academic event. Their task is to support the participants and to provide other assistance during the events.

To prepare for the event the facilitators are required to attend a course where they learn about the conferment process, the University of Lapland, and the academic tradition.

The course begins in October 2023 and takes place once a month for one day. Together with the ceremony proceedings it is worth two credits as part of the course Contributing to the Universtity Community.

The student heralds represent each of our four faculties, and every student of the University of Lapland is eligible to apply for the position. In the selection process, attention is paid to your previous activity in the academic community and your commitment to it. When applying, please submit a short letter of motivation with your application. The selection is made by the representatives of the university’s conferment committee and the student union.
