Virtuaalivappu
Vappu isn’t cancelled – this year we’re celebrating it at home and virtually! LYY’s Remote Vappu (EtäVappu) is celebrated 23.4.-1.5. There are lots of different events that you can access from the comfort of your own home.
The Ministry of the Interior and the police have launched the #virtuaalivappu campaign, which encourages people to deviate from traditions and celebrate vappu on the web, in line with the restrictions on gatherings.

Vappuradio
This year we will celebrate the Vappu eve via Vappuradio! Over the day there will be funny programs and music that gives you the Vappu feeling – of course with some great company. At Vappuradio you can also take part in the Vappu traditions and Online sittning in the evening.
Vappuradio starts playing on Vappu Eve 30.4. at 12:00.

Vappu traditions
Vappu Eve includes many student traditions, and placing the student cap on the Lumberjack statue is one of them! This year, you’re welcome to come and watch it via Vappuradio stream. Artikla ry will wash the Lumberjack and place the student cap on his head this year. Traditionally we will also hear speeches from the mayor of Rovaniemi, the Rector of the University of Lapland, the chair of the executive board of LYY and the chairs of the subject associations’ boards.

Online sittning
Is it even Vappu if it doesn’t include sittning? Prepare your three-course meal, take your own bottle and song book with you and join the sittning people at Vappuradio livestream! You can address the toastmasters and ask for a song by calling the studio. You don’t need to sign up for the sittning or pay anything, just join the livestream. However, be on time! This sittning will also have punishments…
Please note, that the sittning will be held in Finnish. You can still call the studio and ask for a song in English.

EtäVappu photo contest
Put your student cap on (if you have one) and take part in the Remote Vappu photo contest! Share a pic of how you’re spending your vappu as a story of post on Instagram with hashtags #etävappu and #wabueilobu. Remember to tag us on @lyygram. The winner will be announced at Vappuradio on 30.4. at 22:00.

Vappu brunch
The traditional Vappu brunch will be held in Discord this year. Prepare the bruch the way you want it and head for a chill Vappu day hangout with some great company. There will also be some games.

You can register your own event to LYY’s website! Adding your event to our website is fast and easy, and it lets everybody see your event straight away on LYY’s website. When you register your event remember that they have to be open for everyone – unless you want loads of gatecrashers.

Rent LYY’s Sauna for your parties
The Student Union’s Sauna is available for renting. If you are a member of the Student Union of the University of Lapland, the renting costs you 100 euros / night. For non-members the price from Sunday to Thursday is 150 euros / night and from Friday to Saturday 200 euros / night.
