One of the most significant benefits of the Student Union membership is the student card. Student card verifies your student status and thus entitles you to numerous student benefits.
All students completing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in the University of Lapland are automatically members of the University of Lapland Student Union and can thus obtain a student card. The student card can be obtained as a plastic card, a digital card – or even both!
Postgraduate’s student card:
Students completing a postgraduate degree (licentiate or doctoral degree) can also obtain a student card by paying the student union membership fee. Postgraduate students are entitled to student discounts and membership services provided by LYY after paying the membership fee and obtaining a student card. However, postgraduate students are not entitled to FSHS services, VR and Matkahuolto’s student discounts and KELA’s meal allowance. Postgraduates do however get a meal discount from Lovisa cafe. The meal price with postgraduate’s student card is 5,60 €.
Plastic card and sticker
You can obtain a plastic student card by ordering it from Frank’s website. By purchasing Frank’s plastic student card, you get access to Frank’s versatile student benefits.
The student card can be ordered with or without the payment feature. In addition to this, the student card can be ordered with an international ISIC student ID, which entitles you to international student benefits. Student card sticker
The validity of the plastic student card is proved by the semester sticker or academic year sticker. The academic year sticker certifies the student’s attendance for both the fall and spring semesters while the semester sticker is given to students who are present only during the fall semester. You will receive a sticker on your student card from LYY’s customer service point during its opening hours or from LYY’s office at a pre-arranged time. Remember to keep your card sticker up to date so you don’t miss out on the benefits you deserve!
If you want a semester sticker for your card, but you cannot apply for the sticker within LYY’s opening hours, you can forward your card to us by post. Please note that student cards with a payment feature shoud not be sent!
Proceed as follows:
- Put your student card in an envelope and also put in a return envelope with your own address and stamp.
- Send the letter to: University of Lapland Student Union, Ahkiomaantie 23B, 96300 Rovaniemi
Note! Under no circumstances will we send the semester sticker loose. The semester sticker can only be sent attached to the student card.
The sticker can also be picked up from another local student union for a service fee of 5 euros, but this must always be agreed separately in advance. In that case, you should send an e-mail to us at lyy (at) lyy.fi and tell us in your message your name, your student number, and from which student union you want to pick up the sticker on your card. We will forward the information to another student union and forward you an acknowledgment message when your sticker is ready to be picked up.
The semester sticker can be picked up from all other student unions, except the University of Helsinki Student Union and the Svenska Handelhögskolans Studentkår.
