Student Union’s customer service point is open at the university, F-wing. The customer service is open:
- Tuesday and Thursday at 12-14

New Council of Representatives has been elected!
20 members were elected to the Student Parliament in the Students’ Union’s election in University of Lapland. The new Parliament begins its two-year-long term on December 1st, 2019.
Altogether 1178 votes were given in the election. 3 of the votes were disqualified. Voter turnout was 30,63 %.
There were 11 association that nominated candidates. Biggest assocation was Artikla (Law Students) who kept their six seats. Second was TAO-lista (Art Students) who doubled their seats from two to four. Vihertävät (Greens) also doubled their seats from one to two. Two new assocations Vasen (the Left) and Rovaniemen demariopiskelijat (Social democratic students of Rovaniemi) got both one seat.
The three candidates that got the most votes were Vili Peltomäki (58 votes), Miikka Keränen (51 votes) and Matilda Kalving (43 votes).

LYY Board recruitment 2020
The Executive board of LYY takes care of the implementation of the decisions made by the Council of Representatives. The board members are chosen by the Council of Representatives around every November or December. The board includes the Chief of the Board and 4-8 members of the board. The Executive Board works in close cooperation with the crew of LYY in order to protect the interests of the students and to keep up the active student life of the University of Lapland. The board membership is a position of responsibility. The members decide for the roles of each member in the board every year.
You can apply to the LYY’s board by sending a application and CV by e-mail to the secretary general Heljä Kärnä, paasihteeri(at)lyy.fi, the message has to be sent with the topic “Application to LYY board 2020”. The applications has to be sent latest on 3.12. at 14:00. You can also apply to the board by coming to the meeting of Council of Representatives without a seperate application to our secretary general.

LYY and student card also on TUUDO
LYY has now also found its’ way to TUUDO! Now you can find us there, and also your student card! Click the wallet icon next to your name, download a picture of you and there you have it – working student card right in your TUUDO app! Frank application is still working, so you can use both!
This co-work with TUUDO is a pilot test, and ends after the spring semester. After this LYY decides, if it will continue the contract with TUUDO.

Meeting of the Council of Representatives 12.11.
The last meeting of Council of Representatives 2017-2019 will be held on Tuesday 12.11. at 2pm, at LS2. On the agenda there are student selections to different kind of decision-making positions, materials to SYL general assembly and “safe area principles” paper.
The meeting is open for everyone.

Remburssi: Flip Cup tournament 13.11.
If you’re already tired of playing beer pong, but you love the red cups, it’s your time to shine!
We warmly welcome all our international students to join our flip cup tournament on wednesday 13th of november. This tournament starts at 6.30pm, but please arrive at 6pm already! The contest is free, but you have to pay for your own drinks. Tournament is open for all the students from our university and from our university of applied sciences.
If you want to join, please register your team in email to elli.tuominen14@gmail.com. There can be 3-6 players in your team. First 15 teams can join. Please register your team until 12th of november at 6pm.

TAO 13 years 16.11.
The arts faculty students’ subject association, TAO is turning 13 next week! The party will be held at the Restaurant Aitta and the evening will be full of program, good food and great company. Unfortunately the party has already been sold out.

Radio Säteily 1.11.-23.11.
Playing once a year for three weeks, Radio Säteily is a student radio of University of Lapland. This year Säteily begins at the 1st of November 2019 and ends 23th of November. You can listen to Radio Säteily on its websites or on the radio: 89.00MHZ.
Students of University of Lapland, in addition to other citizens of Rovaniemi, are responsible of producing programmes for Radio Säteily. We are a non-profit and amateur run local radio, which has through the years melted it’s way into the locals hearts in our own way of doing original and interesting programmes with great quality. Radio Säteily was founded in 2001.

This year we proudly presents a new degree: HONORARY DOCTOR! Having this degree complete you have to get 16 examination marks.
The Arctic Appro is here again for the sixth time to gather students from all over Finland to take them on a tour, going around the bars and pubs in Rovaniemi to complete different degrees! Can you withstand the arctic conditions and complete your degree with the help of the friendly and warm pubs and bars keeping you hydrated?

Mental health week and Beat the Polar Night on the week 47
The national Mental health week will be held on the week 47, and LYY is also taking part of it. We will bring out some tips, how to help your friend in difficult times and how to find balance in your every day life. Check out our Instagram story, and see if we can help you somehow!
The week includes Beat the Polar Night event on Wednesday 20.11. During this day you can find all kinds of cheery things in the campus area! Let’s try to find something bright in the endless night. 😊

Independence day’s Parade 6.12.
LYY organizes every year LYY’s torch parade on Finland’s Independence day. By means of the torch parade we will celebrate and honor the 102nd Independence Day of Finland.
We will gather and get organized in Lordi square at 3:00 pm. From Lordi square we will march towards the church of Rovaniemi. Once we’ll arrive to church, we will gather to graveyard towards soldier’s graves and honor their memory. The parade will end to graveyard.
You will only need student cap (if you have one), your own lantern if you want and joyful mood!

Rent LYY’s Sauna for your parties
Student Union’s Sauna is available for renting during the summertime. If you are a member of the Student Union of the University of Lapland, the renting costs you 100 euros / night. For non-members the price from Sunday to Thursday is 150 euros / night and from Friday to Saturday 200 euros / night. Booking happens via email to edunvalvonta(at)lyy.fi or by phone +358 45 138 4190.
