Start of year recap
In January, LYY’s new Executive Board began planning for next year. The month culminated in the news that the Ministry of Education and Science has granted support to LYY for the development of tutoring. In February, work began on the project and many other projects. In 2021, LYY intends to focus especially on the development of operations, e.g. in the field of student welfare.
Information from the University
With the changed corona situation, the University of Lapland has also updated its own corona guidelines. The university’s anniversary was celebrated on March 1st and the in the event awarded the alumni, teacher and student group of the year, as well as commemorations for those who worked at the university for a long time. At its anniversary celebrations, the University of Lapland also commemorated Emeritus Rector Esko Riepula, who turned 80 earlier this year, by establishing an Esko Riepula Scholarship at the university. Esko Riepula Scholarships are awarded to dissertation researchers at the University of Lapland on the basis of justified applications and recommendations for the completion of dissertations.

Looking for tutors!
Recruitment for international tutors is now open. International tutors are recruited for academic year 2021-2022 to guide the new exchange and international degree students to their new university, studies, student life and Rovaniemi.
LYY grants
The Executive Board of the Student Union of the University of Lapland has opened operating and project grants for applications.
The operating grant is intended to support the basic activities of the organizations and can be applied for by associations operating among the members of the student union.
With the project grant, LYY strives to develop the local student culture. Project assistance can be applied for for all types of project activities. In addition to associations, individuals or groups can also apply for the project grant!
The Executive Board
The Executive Board has worked on the Ministry of Education and Science project to develop tutoring and introduced our municipal election goals to political organizations!

The Council of Representatives
The second meeting of the Council of Representatives of the year will be held on Wednesday 24 March, from 3 p.m. The meeting will focus on, among other things, the operating grants distributed by LYY and the future of the Student Magazine. Due to the pandemic, the meeting will be held through Microsoft Teams. You will find a link to the meeting later via a Facebook event published on LYY’s channels. Remember that all LYY members have the right to speak and attend meetings of the Council of Representatives.
