October recap
In October LYY celebrated it’s 41st birthday in a whole new COVID-19 safe way as well as organized the first LYY Responsibility Week on social media. Protection of student interests at LYY has been very active, and we met with rector Syväjärvi to discuss equality and the students’ position as a decision maker in the University of Lapland. LYY is also looking for a substitute for our Secretary General. The position requires excellent Finnish language skills. More information can be found on LYY’s website in Finnish.
Information from the University
The University has updated the COVID-19 guidelines in October. Face masks are strongly recommended while in the shared spaces on campus. Furthermore, on-campus presence should continue to be limited to what is necessary for the purposes of studying or working. Face-to-face teaching will be delivered only when strictly necessary. Also, the University is gathering information from students via a questionnaire on remote and hybrid work for the students.
November greetings
Protection of Interests
LYY works closely with the University of Lapland to ensure the smooth running of students’ studies even in these exceptional times. There are great benefits to exchanging and interacting with information. We are also gathering information about student’s experiences with a survey about Lapland university sport services.

The Executive Board
Hallitusrekry alkaa pian!

The Council of Representatives
LYY’s Council of Representatives (or edustajisto; edari in Finnish), will have two meetings in November: On the 11th we will ratify decisions made in the October meeting and decide on a rule change that will allow the council to have its meetings entirely online. The aim is to ensure that LYY will remain fully functional regardless of circumstances, and we believe that remote working will be the new norm in the future.
The Council has multiple committees that work on e.g. LYY’s finances and strategy. One of the committees has prepared a proposal for the council, and the meeting on the 25th of November will thus decide on LYY’s “Position paper related to student politics”.
LYY warmly welcomes all of its members to participate in the council’s work! You can for example join the meeting via Adobe Connect – though please note that meetings will be held in Finnish.
