- 6.11. Council of Representatives –election night event Come to Punapippuri to excite the election results and watch the election buzz with candidates and voters! Event begins around 17:00 and the results begin to be heard after about 19:00.
- 12.11. International Students Advocacy Round Table Meeting Come and discuss about relevant topics around student life and share your thoughts and feelings about international student advocacy. The meeting takes place on 12.11. at 15:00-16:00. Information regarding the location of the meeting will be published later on. Follow LYY’s Instagram @lyygram !
- 14.11. Arctic Appro Arctic Appro is back in Rovaniemi for the 11th time. Pull on your overalls, gather your friends and go around Rovaniemi’s cafés and bars in chilling Arctic conditions after the degrees. The after party will be held at the nightclub Doris. Tickets for the event can be found on kide.app and sales have already started on Tuesday this week. More information can be found on LYY’s Instagram!
Advocacy
- SYL arranged a meeting with Minister of the Environment Sari Multala The meeting was attended by the board chairperson Tähtivaara from LYY. We discussed the housing situation of students in general, and the board chairperson Tähtivaara gave a speech on the crisis housing situation of students in Rovaniemi.
- Commenting on Communications Strategy of FSHS FSHS is in the process of renewing its communications strategy and collecting anonymous comments on its current communications. LYY highlighted its current strengths, such as talking about relevant themes and being active, especially in social media. We also presented development ideas such as the wider use of targeted email lists and talking about mental health and the importance of sleep in a more multichannel way.
- Approval of internationalization strategy and action plan At its meeting held on 16 October, the Council of Representatives approved LYY’s internationalization strategy and action plan 2025-2028 according to the executive board’s motion. The documentary is aimed at supporting LYY’s readiness to include international degree students already studying at the school as well as future international bachelor’s degree students as part of the community and its actions.
- Meeting of the Centre Party’s City Council Group in RovaniemiLYY organized a meeting with the Centre Party’s city council group on October 22. Representatives from the Rovaniemi Centre Students also took part. The discussion focused especially on the housing situation of students and the functionality of public transport in Rovaniemi. Together, we also considered concrete solutions for improving these issues.

The Lapland Chamber of Commerce, Lapland University of Applied Sciences, University of Lapland, LYY, and ROTKO organized a career event where three professionals from different fields spoke to students about employment opportunities in Lapland and building a career in the North. - 1.10. Fresher Sits In cooperation with subject organizations, LYY organized interdisciplinary Fresher Sits in the main lobby of the university. Thank you to all participants for a great and fun interdisciplinary evening! And for those who have participated in the event, if you have not yet retrieved the overall badge for the event, they can now be retrieved from the LYY service point on Mondays and Tuesdays between 12.00 and 14.00.
- 4.10. LYY celebrated its 46th Anniversary LYY celebrated its 46th Anniversary at Arctic SnowHotel in Lehtojärvi. Thank you all for a memorable evening! - 23.10. LYY’s Student Policy Paper Hearing LYY’s program working group has prepared a draft of the student policy paper and organized a hearing for the members. The comments received from the discussion were discussed by the program working group on 27.10 and made the changes based on it. Thank you to all commenters!

- Approval of LYYs Equity Plan 2026-2028 and Principles of Safer Space At the meeting held on Thursday 16 October, the Council of Representatives approved an updated Equity Plan 2026-2028 and the new “Principles of Safer Space”. The principles of safer space will replace the common space principles previously in use. The principles of safer space are based on the University of Lapland’s Principles of Safer Space, which have been prepared by Pieta Pyhtinen, Maria Sipilä and Aino Kärpänniemi. - LYY News on Radio Säteily The sure sign of autumn is that the LYYtiset will return to the frequencies of Radio Säteily! Starting every Monday in November at 10.00 AM, Eetu from LYY board and studio guests will talk about both casual and relevant topics of our student community. Join us from Radio Säteily’s website or frequency 89.00 Hz to listen!
- Annual Celebration representation during October LYY’s board members and employees have represented LYY at numerous annual celebrations in Rovaniemi as well as all over Finland. LYY’s board members have attended several anniversary celebrations, including the 2nd anniversary of Diverssi ry, the association of special education students at the University of Lapland; the annual celebration of the National Defence University Student Union (MPKKO); the 7th anniversary of the Student Union of Tampere University (TREY); the 56th anniversary of the Student Union of LUT University (LTKY); and the 46th anniversary of Artikla ry, the association of law students.
- Office Development Days at KeropirttiLYY’s employees and board spent October 13–15 at the university’s cabin Keropirtti in Pyhä, taking time to relax and develop LYY’s future activities. The program included, among other things, drafting the action plan and budget, as well as outdoor exercise in the terrain of Pyhäkuru.
