LYY News May 2025

Advocacy

  • LYY published a statement titled “Finland’s future cannot be built by cutting education.” The Finnish government has made cuts to the core funding of universities — a development LYY finds deeply concerning. LYY calls on the government to take concrete action to safeguard education. Read the full statement on LYY’s website.
  • LYY joined other student unions in publishing a joint statement titled “Student Unions: The university community must stand united against degrees via open university!” The student unions oppose the government’s mid-term policy proposal that would allow students to complete a full university degree entirely through open university, without entrance exams or certificate-based admissions.  Read the full statement on LYY’s website.
  • LYY is actively involved in the Ministry of Education and Culture’s Higher Education Vision 2040 process, contributing the student perspective to the development of future higher education policies.
