The Student Union of the University of Lapland (LYY) has appointed two new harassment contact persons: Karoliina Ahvenainen (kahvenai@ulapland.fi) and Tove Hammarström (thammars@ulapland.fi). They begin their duties in December and are available to students regarding any issues related to harassment, bullying, discrimination, or other conflicts.
The previously used harassment email address hairinta@lyy.fi will remain active. This inbox is handled by LYY’s Specialist in Student Affairs, Krista Ulkuniemi. Messages to said inbox are directed to Harassment Contact Persons.
Introductions
“Hello everyone! Karoliina Ahvenainen here, a master’s student in Art Education — in other words, I am studying to become an art teacher. I have been surrounded by visual arts since childhood. My hobbies include art, dogs, spending time in nature, gaming, and photography.
Alongside my university studies, I have worked as a peer mentor from autumn 2024 to spring 2025. I started as a tutor for master’s students in the Faculty of Arts in autumn 2025, I am the 3rd deputy member of TAO-lista, and I am now working as one of LYY’s harassment contact persons.
I hope that I can do my best to help and support other students in difficult situations, and work together to find suitable solutions to challenges. My goal is to be a listening, impartial, and approachable guide. You can reach out to me easily and share your worries or frustrations without hesitation.
Sometimes there may be situations where we cannot find solutions, no matter how much we wish to — but I promise to be there at least as emotional support and a listening ear. It is important to talk about your concerns as soon as possible so they don’t linger.
Let’s remember to treat every person with respect and to treat others the way we would like to be treated ourselves. That is probably the best rule of thumb.”
“I’m Tove Hammarström, and I am one of LYY’s harassment contact persons. I’m currently in my third year of studying law. I spend most of my free time doing taekwon-do and agility, but you can also find me in the forest with my dog or at home on the couch with my knitting!
It’s important to me that all of us feel comfortable and welcome in the university community. I hope I can offer support in situations where someone feels that this isn’t the case. I’m happy to help with any concerns related to harassment, and I want to work together to find solutions to those feelings <3”
