This spring, two elections will be held simultaneously in Finland: the regional elections and the municipal elections. The Student Union of the University of Lapland (LYY) and the student union ROTKO aim to influence local matters in Rovaniemi and regional issues across Lapland again this spring through these three key election themes!

The New Wave of Housing! 

The right to affordable and comfortable living for everyone, including students. 

• Ensure sufficient affordable student housing by enabling the construction of new student apartments and regulating short-term rentals. 

• Enhance livability through green spaces and outdoor exercise areas. Develop existing green areas in Rantavitikka and Viirinkangas by building outdoor gyms and various park structures. 

A Community-Driven City! 

Rovaniemi, a city that builds services together with its residents. 

• Improve public transport through route trials and adjustments, such as increasing evening bus services on Fridays and Saturdays. Create a “Discover and Learn” ticket to help new students get accustomed to public transportation. 

• Increase the visibility of art by students of the Lapland University Consortium by providing more platforms for artistic expression and enriching urban culture. 

• Expand and maintain pedestrian and cycling paths, prioritizing their winter maintenance with higher priority snow removal. 

Hire the Best! 

The Lapland University Consortium is full of innovative future professionals ready for the workforce. 

• Develop collaboration projects with businesses to create more job opportunities for students in the region. 

• Establish a talent bank in partnership with the Lapland University Consortium, the city, and other stakeholders to improve internship opportunities and commissioned projects for students. 

• Create a science- and research-based advisory committee within the Lapland University Consortium to support city decision-making, offering students a chance to participate and contribute.
