The student representative positions in administration (Hallopeds) that were open for applications this year have now been filled. This is a rare occurrence, as only one additional application round was needed, and the selections for next year were already finalized in November. LYY’s Council of Representatives and the Board would like to thank the membership for their active interest in these important advocacy roles.
Hallopeds play an active role in local administrative bodies, such as faculty councils and the university board, ensuring that students’ needs and wishes are considered in decision-making. These bodies make decisions on matters like the content of education, resources related to student well-being, and the university’s strategic directions, making Hallopeds an invaluable asset to the student union. The student union actively promotes openness and democracy within the university community, and student representatives in administration are essential to achieving this goal.
Positions filled this year:
- University Board (2 regular members)
- Faculty Councils:
- Faculty of Education (3 regular members, 3 deputy members)
- Faculty of Law (3 regular members, 3 deputy members)
- Faculty of Art and Design (3 regular members, 3 deputy members)
- Faculty of Social Sciences (3 regular members, 3 deputy members)
- Board of the University of Lapland Training School (1 regular member, 1 deputy member)
- Appeals Committee (2 regular members, 2 deputy members)
- Domus Arctica Foundation Board (1 regular member)
- FSHS Delegation (1 regular member, 1 deputy member)
- FSHS Northern Regional Board (1 regular member)
This autumn, student representatives in administration were selected under new regulations, which brought challenges and discussions regarding the process and transparency of decisions. For next year, the Council of Representatives plans to revisit these regulations and improve the process to address the issues that arose.
Applications for the 2026 Halloped positions will open again next year. Due to the large number of applicants, not everyone who applied this year could be selected. However, the student union hopes to see the same high level of enthusiasm in next year’s Halloped application process!
