Juho Kähkönen, new UArctic Board member
Juho Kähkönen, a postgraduate student at the University of Lapland, has been elected to the Board of the University of the Arctic (UArctic). UArctic is a co-operation network of educational institutions and research centers in the northern region, which includes more than 200 organizations. UArctic’s mission is to promote educational and research cooperation in the northern region. Kähkönen’s election to UArctic’s Board is a great milestone in student advocacy in Lapland, as the Nordic countries have not had a student representative for more than 10 years.
“I am grateful for the trust I have received. I am going to represent the student’s voice. The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged the northern region of long distances and its students in an unprecedented way. My goal is to improve the well-being of students. I have already contacted Arctic students to get advice for Board work”, Kähkönen rejoices.
The election of the Board was made by the General Assembly of UArctic. Kähkönen’s term on UArctic’s Board covers the years 2021-2024. After the new elections, Lapland’s representation on UArctic’s Board is exceptionally strong, as Johanna Ikäheimo, Chair of the Board of Lappset Group, was also elected.
You can read more about Kähkönen’s election in the extract from the minutes of the UArctic General Meeting.
The composition of UArctic’s Board can be found on the UArctic website.
