Now in its second year in its current format, the orientation event for new students is back! Are you ready for an evening full of new people, university premises and student organizations? Get your tickets from Kide.app.
8.9. Interdisciplinary Cup
The summer football fever still goes on at the Interdisciplinary Cup, a competition between the subject associations held at the Susivouti field. Registration for the tournament takes place via the Kide.app and is open until 4.9. Read more about the event on our communication channels!
15.9. Wellness Appro
On Tuesday, 15.9. the universities’ Sports Afternoon—students can participate in the Wellbeing Appro organized by the Student Union! During Wellness Appro participants can learn about the activities of the Wellness Pass partners! 22.9. at 11:00–15 Blood Donation Event at the University
LYY Donates! LYY is organizing a blood donation event in collaboration with the Finnish Red Cross! There will also be a light-hearted competition between subject associations. Read about the event, blood donation, and scheduling an appointment on our website event calendar.
30.9. Interdisciplinary Fresher Sits
The interdisciplinary fresher sits are back—for the second year in a row! At these sits, freshmen get to experience a memorable and eventful evening in the university’s main lobby alongside other new students. There will be more information about the event in September on our communication channels.
3.10. LYY’s 47th Annual Ball
Our beloved student union is celebrating another anniversary this fall, turning 47 this year. To celebrate this milestone, we’re planning a fantastic celebratory weekend full of fun and memorable moments! 10.9. Representative Council Meeting 5/2026
As planned, the Representative Council will reconvene after the summer break on 10.9. The meeting agenda and location will be announced shortly via our communication channels.
Advocacy
15.8. Submission of Comments on Rovaniemi’s Tourism Program
The City of Rovaniemi’s tourism program has been open for public comment throughout the summer. As the Student Union, we submitted our comments on the program to the public comment service.
19.8. Meeting with campus pastors
Our executive board and SSA Krista Ulkuniemi met with Rovaniemi campus pastors Ilmo Liimatta and Anitta Kuusikartano. We talked about the job nature and visibility of the position of a campus pastor and about the wellbeing of students at the campuses of Rovaniemi’s higher education institutions.
Call for Applications for Student Representatives in Administration 2027
We are opening the application period for student representatives in administration (halloped) from 31.8. to 18. 9. Student representatives ensure that students’ voices are heard in the administrative decision-making of the university and organizations associated with it. Call for LYY’s candidates for the Board of the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) for 2027
Applications are now open for the Board of the National Union of Finnish Student Unions (SYL). If you’re passionate about student politics at the national level, SYL’s Board might be right up your alley! LYY is now looking for its own candidate for SYL’s Board. Applications are open until 15:00. on September 3. Read more on LYY’s communication channels.

21.8. Associations Fair
We organized the Associations Fair, where student organizations and other leisure-time groups presented their activities to international students in the university’s main lobby. During orientation week, the student associations and LYY also presented their activities separately to exchange students and international degree students.
27.8. Freshers’ Fair
At the end of August, we organized our now-traditional Freshers’ Fair, where Rovaniemi’s academic and hobby associations, as well as other local organizations, had the opportunity to introduce themselves to new students.

21.8. DAS Yliopistonkatu 23 Cornerstone Laying Ceremony
Domus Arctica Foundation is building two new apartment buildings for student housing next to the university, the first of which will be completed as early as August 2027. DAS hosted a foundation stone-laying ceremony for the building, to which we were invited as the student union. Several speeches were given at the ceremony, including a joint speech on behalf of student organisations, delivered by HJ Aho and the President of the Student Union of Lapland University of Applied Sciences, Sova.
Suggest a candidate for the badge of merit 2026 and the Student Achievement of the Year 2026
On 24.8. we opened the suggestion period for the “Student Achievement of the Year 2026” award, to be presented at LYY’s 47th Annual Ball, as well as for the Student Union Badges of Merits. You can suggest anyone you think deserves this honour. Learn about the awards and the criteria for them on our communication channels!
University of Lapland merchandise for sale at the Kloffa merch store
Are you a Low-key streetwear enjoyer? LYY’s merch shop is open again from 25 August to 13 September in the Kloffa online store!
The selection includes old favourites as well as new products: sweatshirts and hoodies with an embroidered Kide logo, oversized styles, new Mindful Blue colour options, Kide logo tote bags, and beanies back in the lineup just in time for winter.

20.8.–21.8. SYL Leadership Seminar in Helsinki
CoB Turkia and SG Tuppi attended the leadership seminar organized by SYL in Helsinki. We caught up with other student unions after the summer, learned about workplace wellbeing, and discussed organizational leadership. We also visited Technology Industries of Finland and the Central Chamber of Commerce. The seminar was rewarding, and it gave our leadership team a great start to the upcoming fall!
Representing at Student Organization Checkpoint Events
We took part in the evening programme of Artikla ry’s Artikla Day on Monday, 17 August, as well as ESN’s checkpoint tour on Friday, 21 August. It was great to spend time with students and meet new faces as the autumn semester got underway! Events like these are also a great way for us to be present in students’ everyday lives and introduce LYY to our new members.
