  • 29.8. 10:00-14:00 Freshers’ Fair

Another academic year, another Freshers’ Fair! (Fuksimessut) During the event new and old students can get to know local associations and businesses at the main hall of the university and maybe find new patches to wear on their overalls. The associations will be present from 10 am to 2 pm.  

  • 30.8. 22:00-04:00 Semester Start   

The university’s opening ceremony takes place on Monday, 1.9. but the students will start celebrating already on the previous Saturday with the Varjoavajaiset! This long-standing tradition kicks off the new school year at nightclub Doris, bringing together both new and returning students. So jump into student life in a tried-and-true way and head to Doris on 30.8. from 10:00 PM onwards! Tickets are being sold on kide.app and their price is 8 euros including the cloakroom fee. 

  • 1.9. 12:00-14:00 Opening Ceremony for the Academic Year 2025-2026  

University of Lapland will hold an Opening Ceremony for the Academic Year 2025-2026 on Monday, 1.9. at Fellman-hall starting at 12.00. Mariel Tähtivaara, Chair of the Board of the Student Union will give the students’ words at the venue. 

  • 2.9. 16:00-22:00 Quest for Lyra

LYYrajahti is an interdisciplinary checkpoint event organised together with subject organisations for new students, where freshmen go around completing task checkpoints in teams around the university. The event culminates in a traditional ceremony in which the kide-cocards are attached to the student caps as a sign of joining the student community!

  • 17.9. 10:00-13:00 Anniversary Flea Market

Are you in a need for new clothes or apparel for incoming Anniversary season or has your closet collected extra and unused pieces for you? Come to the main hall of the university on Wednesday, 17.9. to sell your own clothes or apparel or to make new finds from others. We’ll post more information about the event on Wednesday, 3.9. on our communication channels. 

  • 4.10. Save The Date – LYYs 46th Anniversary

The Student Union of the University of Lapland will once again celebrate its annual festivities on 4.10.2025! Mark the date in your calendar and let your mind attune to the festive spirit of the midnight sun! More information and the official invitation will be sent later. 

Advocacy 

  • Internship Grant Reform Starting in 2026 The University of Lapland will introduce a new internship grant for full-time degree students as of 1.1.2026. The grant amounts to €1,500 for a three-month internship and can be awarded once, either at the bachelor’s or master’s level. Students are responsible for finding their own internship placements and preparing an internship plan together with the employer and the faculty internship supervisor. The internship must be included as part of the degree. The grant is paid to the employer, who invoices the university after the internship has been completed. This reform improves equal opportunities for University of Lapland students compared to other universities, expands possibilities for students to gain practical experience earlier in their studies, and supports career development. The internship grant will not be awarded for teacher education or social work studies, as these are funded through other arrangements.

  • Association Fair 22.8. LYY hosted Association Fair with the help of other associations, subject associations and clubs. Big thanks to everyone involved! 

Other Matters 

  • Archive Intern Recruitment LYY is looking for an archive intern for a fixed-term, three-month position. The work includes organizing LYY’s physical and digital archives, digitization, and documentation. Applicants are expected to have suitable university studies, attention to detail, project management skills, and fluent Finnish language skills. Previous experience in archiving and familiarity with LYY’s activities are considered an advantage. The salary is €1,500/month (possible internship support will be taken into account). Remote work is not possible. The application closes on 3.9. at 12:00, and more information can be found through our communication channels. 
  • Nominations for Annual Celebration Awards Are Open At its annual celebration, the Student Union of the University of Lapland rewards outstanding individuals and achievements. Traditionally, badges of honor are awarded to people who have contributed to the student union’s activities in a particularly significant way. In addition, the event highlights the Student Achievement of the Year, an action that has brought joy, support, or meaning to student life. The 2025 awards will be presented at LYY’s annual celebration on 4.10. Submit your proposal for a badge of honor recipient and/or Student Act of the Year here and/or here! Even the smallest act can make a difference!

Tulevat tapahtumat

  • 29.8. klo 10:00–14:00 Fuksimessut Uusi lukuvuosi, uudet Fuksimessut! Tapahtuman aikana uudet ja vanhat opiskelijat pääsevät yliopiston pääaulassa tutustumaan paikallisten yhdistysten ja yritysten toimintaan tai vaikkapa tekemään haalarimerkkilöytöjä! Järjestöt ovat paikalla klo 10:00–14:00. 
     
  • 30.8. klo 22:00–04:00. Varjoavajaiset LYYn lukuvuoden starttaavat bileet ovat täällä! Perinteeksi muodostuneissa Varjoavajaisissa uusi lukuvuosi potkaistaan käyntiin yökerho Doriksessa, uusien ja vanhojen opiskelijoiden voimin.  Hyppää siis mukaan opiskelija arkeen todistetusti toimivalla tavalla ja suuntaa Dorikseen 30.8. kello 22.00 alkaen! Liput ovat ostettavissa kide.appissa ja niiden hinta on 8 euroa sisältäen narikkamaksun.  
  • 1.9. klo 12:00–14:00. Yliopiston lukuvuoden avajaiset Lapin yliopiston lukuvuoden 2025–2026 avajaiset järjestetään maanantaina 1.9. Fellman-salissa. Ylioppilaskunnan hallituksen puheenjohtaja Mariel Tähtivaara pitää tilaisuudessa opiskelijan puheenvuoron. Ilmoittautuminen paikan päälle osallistumiseen on jo sulkeutunut, mutta tapahtumaa voi seurata live-striimistä yliopiston verkkosivuilta.  
  • 2.9. klo 16:00–22:00 LYYrajahti LYYrajahti on ainejärjestöjen kanssa yhdessä järjestetty poikkitieteellinen rastikierros uusille opiskelijoille, jossa fuksit kiertävät joukkueissa tehtävärasteja ympäri yliopistoa. Tapahtuma huipentuu perinteiseen seremoniaan, jossa kide-kokardit kiinnitetään ylioppilaslakkeihin – merkkinä opiskelijayhteisön jäseneksi liittymisestä! 
  • 17.9. klo 10:00–13:00 Vujukirppis Tarvitsetko uusia vaatteita tai asusteita kohta alkavalle vuosijuhlakaudelle tai onko niitä kaappiin kertynyt ylimääräistä kappaleita? Tule keskiviikkona 17.9. yliopiston pääaulaan myymään omasi eteenpäin tai tekemään löytöjä itsellesi. Lisää tietoa tapahtumasta tulee viestintäkanavisamme 3.9. 
  • 4.10. Save The Date – LYYn 46. Vuosijuhlat Lapin yliopiston ylioppilaskunta viettää taas vuosijuhliaan 4.10.2025! Merkitse päivämäärä kalenteriisi ja anna mielesi virittäytyä yöttömän yön juhlatunnelmaan! Lisätietoja ja virallinen kutsu lähetetään myöhemmin. 

Edunvalvonta

  • Harjoittelutukiuudistus vuodesta 2026 lähtien Lapin yliopisto ottaa 1.1.2026 käyttöön harjoittelutuen tavoiteajassa opiskeleville perustutkinto-opiskelijoille. Tuki on 1 500 euroa kolmen kuukauden harjoittelusta ja sen voi saada yhden kerran joko kandidaatti- tai maisterivaiheessa. Opiskelija etsii harjoittelupaikan itse ja laatii harjoittelusuunnitelman työnantajan sekä tiedekunnan harjoitteluohjaajan kanssa. Harjoittelun tulee kuulua osaksi tutkintoa. Tuki maksetaan työnantajalle, joka laskuttaa sen yliopistolta harjoittelun jälkeen. Uudistus parantaa Lapin yliopiston opiskelijoiden yhdenvertaisia mahdollisuuksia verrattuna muihin yliopistoihin sekä laajentaa opiskelijoiden mahdollisuuksia kartuttaa käytännön kokemusta jo varhaisemmassa vaiheessa ja tukee urapolun rakentamista. Harjoittelutukea ei myönnetä opettajakoulutuksiin eikä sosiaalityön opintoihin, joissa rahoitus järjestetään muulla tavoin.

Tapahtumat

  • 22.8. Järjestömarkkinat LYY järjesti perjantaina 22.8. kansainvälisille opiskelijoille suunnatut järjestömarkkinat yhdessä paikallisten järjestöjen, ainejärjestöjen ja harrasteseurojen voimin. Iso kiitos  kaikille tapahtumaan osallistuneille! 

Muuta

  • Arkistoharjoittelija-rekry LYY etsii arkistoharjoittelijaa kolmen kuukauden määräaikaiseen tehtävään. Työhön kuuluu LYYn fyysisen ja sähköisen arkiston järjestäminen, digitalisointi ja dokumentointi. Hakijalta edellytetään soveltuvia korkeakouluopintoja, tarkkuutta, projektinhallintataitoja ja sujuvaa suomen kielen taitoa. Kokemus arkistoinnista ja LYYn toiminnan tuntemus katsotaan eduksi. Palkka on 1 500 €/kk (mahdollinen harjoittelutuki huomioidaan). Työtä ei voi tehdä etänä. Haku päättyy 3.9. klo 12 ja lisätietoja löydät täältä. 
  • Haut vuosijuhlilla palkittavien osalta avattiin Lapin yliopiston ylioppilaskunta palkitsee vuosijuhlissaan ansioituneita toimijoita ja tekoja. Perinteisesti juhlan yhteydessä jaettavat ansiomerkit myönnetään henkilöille, jotka ovat osallistuneet ylioppilaskunnan toimintaan erityisen merkittävällä tavalla. Lisäksi juhlissa palkitaan Vuoden opiskelijateko, joka on tuonut iloa, tukea tai merkitystä opiskelijoiden arkeen. Vuoden 2025 palkinnot jaetaan LYYn vuosijuhlassa 4. lokakuuta. Käy ehdottamassa ansiomerkin ja/tai Vuoden opiskelijateon saajaa täältä ja/tai täältä! Pienikin teko voi olla merkityksellinen!
