LYY adjusts its office temperature a degree colder as part of, you guessed it, the national Down A Degree (Astetta alemmas) -campaign! In keeping with our principles of sustainability, we also do not keep lights or electronics on unnecessarily in our office. In addition, we will communicate energy saving tips to our members.
Test your energy knowledge on the campaign’s website and participate in a draw here: https://www.asteaalemmas.fi/testaa_tietosi
Down A Degree is the joint energy saving campaign of the state administration. It offers concrete tips for saving energy and cutting electricity consumption peaks at home, at work and in traffic.
At LYY, energy efficiency is taken seriously, as the theme of responsibility is important to us in every one of our operations. Viljo Vuorimäki, executive committee member responsible for international affairs and responsibility, commented on LYY’s participation in the campaign: “The energy crisis is a national problem that also affects students. We are all, including LYY, responsible for ensuring that everyone gets through the winter without worry. This is why it was important that LYY took part in the Down A Degree -campaign, so that we do our part.”
LYY also promotes responsibility through its responsibility division, which is chaired by ECM Vuorimäki this year. “The responsibility division meets once a month to discuss current environmental and responsibility issues that are in direct contact with the activities of subject organisations and the student union. The role of the environment/responsibility officer is vital for the future, especially when the climate crisis worsens,” Vuorimäki states.
LYY continues with a sense of responsibility into the increasingly cold and dark winter, and will act sustainably to overcome the frost and darkness with its transparently bright operation. A warm Spring will come for all of us in the long run, when we together down a degree and are a notch smarter with our energy consumption!
