Statement on the Government&#8217;s proposal for the amendment of the Building Act<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bill to amend the Construction Act, i.e. the &#8220;short-term rental bill&#8221;, is currently being considered by the Parliament in committee. The entry into force of the bill as such will not ease the housing crisis for students in Rovaniemi, as it legalises activities that have led to a crisis in the situation. You can read the full statement on LYY&#8217;s website and social media.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>6.5<\/strong><strong>.&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Housing Policy Situation Overview for the Representative Council<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Specialist of Student Affairs Ulkuniemi&nbsp;organized a workshop for the&nbsp;Representative Council.&nbsp;The workshop&nbsp;looked over&nbsp;the advocacy work what had done in the&nbsp;last&nbsp;years&nbsp;and its achievements. In addition, the council members had the opportunity to brainstorm future solutions to improve the local housing situation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>7.5<\/strong><strong>. Meeting with the Rovaniemi city council group of the Finns Party<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">LYYs Executive Board met the&nbsp;Rovaniemi city council group of the Finns Party. Topics of discussion were&nbsp;for example affordable housing, development of the public transportation,&nbsp;international Rovaniemi and employment of youth from the fields of studies of the University of Lapland.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>11.5. Student housing situation and the future of the university&nbsp;-panel discussion<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CoB&nbsp;Turkia&nbsp;participated in a panel discussion organised by the Professors&#8217; Council of the University of Lapland on the housing situation of students. The panel discussed the factors affecting the housing situation and its consequences. Among the topics discussed were the financial situation of students, well-being and the importance of the university and contact teaching in Rovaniemi. Other speakers on the panel were Rector Antti&nbsp;Syv\u00e4j\u00e4rvi, Member of Parliament Mika Riipi, Dean of the Faculty of Arts Satu Miettinen, future Mayor of Rovaniemi Joonas&nbsp;H\u00e4nninen&nbsp;and University Board Member Kari Salmela.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Past events<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>30.4. Wappu Traditions<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The traditional capping of the&nbsp;J\u00e4tk\u00e4-statue went successfully in gorgeous weather on May Day Eve. This year,&nbsp;J\u00e4tk\u00e4&nbsp;was introduced by Lyhty&nbsp;ry, a student association for social work students. There were&nbsp;a huge number&nbsp;of students, as well as other audiences who had come in large numbers to see the students celebrate May Day!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>30.4. Wappu Final<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;feeling amazing&nbsp;during Wappu final. The dance floor of Doris Night Club filled up from party people and&nbsp;the vibes were on the roof throughout the whole night.&nbsp;R\u00f6ll\u00f6wappu&nbsp;2026 was&nbsp;a great success&nbsp;as a whole!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Other<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>4.\u20135.5.&nbsp;SYL Education Policy Sector Days<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BM&nbsp;Korkiakoski and&nbsp;Specialist of Student Affairs&nbsp;Ulkuniemi&nbsp;participated in the Education Policy Sector Days organised by the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) in Helsinki. During the sector days, discussions focused on the university funding model, artificial intelligence, and the upcoming parliamentary elections.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>8.5. SYL Sustainable Development Sector Day<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BM Aho&nbsp;participated&nbsp;in SYL\u2019s Sustainable Development Sector Day in Helsinki. During the day, participants visited, among other places, the Vitality Centre and&nbsp;Puistokatu&nbsp;4, the House of Science and Hope.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>21.5.-22.5.&nbsp;SYL&nbsp;leadership&nbsp;sector\u2019s&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>seminar<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">COB&nbsp;Turkia, VCOB&nbsp;Kaarnivuo&nbsp;and SG Tuppi&nbsp;took&nbsp;part&nbsp;in&nbsp;SYL\u2019s&nbsp;leadership&nbsp;seminar&nbsp;in Helsinki.&nbsp;We&nbsp;met&nbsp;up&nbsp;with&nbsp;other&nbsp;student&nbsp;union\u2019s&nbsp;leaderships&nbsp;and&nbsp;discussed&nbsp;a&nbsp;lot&nbsp;about&nbsp;lobbying&nbsp;and&nbsp;parliament&nbsp;election&nbsp;programmes.&nbsp;The&nbsp;seminar&nbsp;included&nbsp;interesting&nbsp;visits&nbsp;with&nbsp;one&nbsp;of&nbsp;them&nbsp;being&nbsp;to&nbsp;Finnish&nbsp;Real&nbsp;Estate&nbsp;Federation&nbsp;and&nbsp;to&nbsp;Finnish&nbsp;Landlord&nbsp;Association.&nbsp;There&nbsp;we&nbsp;got to&nbsp;hear&nbsp;about&nbsp;housing&nbsp;from&nbsp;national&nbsp;perspective&nbsp;and&nbsp;discuss&nbsp;about&nbsp;the&nbsp;topics&nbsp;with&nbsp;the&nbsp;organizations&nbsp;and&nbsp;other&nbsp;student&nbsp;unions.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<div\n\t\t\t\t\t\tclass=\"wp-block-uagb-image-gallery
