The University Board decides, among other things, on the university\u2019s strategic policies, oversees the university\u2019s financial guidelines, enters into agreements with the Ministry of Education and Culture regarding, among other things, educational responsibilities, determines the university\u2019s enrollment quotas, confers the title of professor, and approves the rules governing the university\u2019s operations, such as the bylaws.
The term of office for student members of the University Board is one year. Two student representatives are sought for the University Board, both of whom will serve as full members without alternates.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\nUniversity Council<\/strong><\/span><\/i><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
The University Council decides, among other things, on the number of members of the Board of Directors and their terms of office, and elects members who are not part of the Board. It also approves the financial statements and the annual report, meaning it exercises the highest decision-making authority at the university. It consists of 24 members, each of whom has a personal alternate. Eight of the members represent professors, eight represent other faculty members, researchers, and other staff, and eight represent students. The University Council meets at least once per semester. A joint meeting of the University Council and the University Board is held annually.

Each faculty (the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Arts, and the Faculty of Social Sciences) has a faculty council. The faculty council consists of 9\u201312 members and an equal number of alternate members. Professors, other staff, and students are represented on the faculty councils. The Faculty Council is responsible for the faculty\u2019s strategic planning, prepares a proposal for the faculty\u2019s budget, and, among other things, submits a proposal to the University Board regarding the number of students to be admitted to each program.
The term of office for student members of the Faculty Council is one year.
Six student members are sought for each Faculty Council, of whom three are elected as regular members and three as first-priority alternate members. A \u201cprimary alternate\u201d means that the alternate is not a specific full member\u2019s personal substitute, but may, if necessary, act as a representative for any full member if that full member is unable to attend a meeting.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\nThe Appeals Board<\/strong><\/span><\/i><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
The Appeals Board handles cases involving the loss of the right to study, the grading of coursework, and the recognition of studies completed elsewhere or other forms of demonstrated competence.
In addition to the chair and vice chair, the Board has four other members and an equal number of alternate members. The chair of the Board must be a professor in the Faculty of Law. Furthermore, the vice chair must be a professor. Of the members and alternate members, two are other faculty members and two are students.

The Board consists of a chairperson and nine other members, along with their personal alternates. The Faculty of Education is represented by the dean, with the vice dean and a representative appointed by the Faculty Council serving as alternates, as well as a student representative from the class teacher training program and their alternate.
The task of the Training School Board is to monitor, develop, and support the school\u2019s educational and teaching work, as well as its research, experimental, and development activities and its teacher education and continuing education programs. In addition, it promotes cooperation between the Faculty of Education and the training school, as well as cooperation and communication between the school and the municipal school system. The Board reviews the training school\u2019s budget, performance agreement, and annual report; approves the training school\u2019s curriculum, class schedule, school rules, and annual work plan; and determines the school\u2019s work and vacation schedules.
The term of office for the training school\u2019s board is one year. Two student members are sought for the training school\u2019s board, one of whom will be elected as a regular member and the other as an alternate member. Please note that, in accordance with the training school\u2019s bylaws, only elementary school teacher education students may apply for this position.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\nArctic Centre Executive Board<\/strong><\/span><\/i><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
The Arctic Centre Executive Board participates in strategic planning. It approves action plans and makes proposals to the rector of the University of Lapland regarding, for example, the budget, project proposals, and recruitment.
The term of office for a student member of the Executive Board of Arctic Centre is two years. Two student representatives are sought for the Board, one of whom is elected as a full member and the other as an alternate member.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\nDomus Arctica Foundation<\/strong><\/span><\/i><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
The Domus Arctica Foundation has been in operation since 1969. Its purpose is to alleviate the housing situation for students attending post-elementary educational institutions in the city of Rovaniemi by constructing or acquiring suitable and affordable rental with the necessary additional facilities, as well as maintaining and renting them out.
The Foundation\u2019s Board of Directors is responsible for the Foundation\u2019s administration and for ensuring that its operations are organized appropriately to fulfill its purpose. The Board is responsible for ensuring that the supervision of the foundation\u2019s accounting and financial management is properly organized. The Board of the Domus Arctica Foundation also decides on the housing foundation\u2019s strategic guidelines. The Board must manage the foundation\u2019s affairs in accordance with the law and the foundation\u2019s bylaws. The Board represents the foundation.
The DAS Board consists of a chairperson and nine other members. The Rovaniemi City Council appoints the chairperson and two members to the Board, the University of Lapland appoints one member, the Student Union of the University of Lapland appoints one member, Lapland University of Applied Sciences appoints one member, and ROTKO, the Student Union of Lapland University of Applied Sciences, appoints one member from among its students studying in Rovaniemi. Residents of the rental properties owned by the foundation elect three resident members to the foundation\u2019s board from among themselves through elections held at residents\u2019 meetings. The board meets approximately once a month, or more frequently if necessary.
The term of office for student members of the board is one year. The Domus Arctica Foundation is seeking one student member for its board; this position does not have an alternate member.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\nThe FSHS Delegation<\/strong><\/span><\/i><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
The Delegation consists of at least 24 and at most 30 members. They are elected for two calendar years at a time. The National Union of Finnish Student Unions (SY) appoints nine representatives, seven of whom are selected based on nominations from student unions within the Foundation\u2019s jurisdiction. The selection is made by lottery, taking gender quotas into account. The Union of Finnish Student Unions (SAMOK) appoints nine representatives, seven of whom are selected based on nominations from student unions at universities of applied sciences. The Ministry of Education and Culture, the National Institute for Health and Welfare, the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities, the staff of the Student Health Care Foundation, the Rectors\u2019 Conference of Finnish Universities (UNIFI), and the Rectors\u2019 Conference of Universities of Applied Sciences (Arene) each appoint one representative to the delegation.
The delegation meets at least twice a year. Matters to be discussed include, among other things, the annual report, financial statements, the budget, and the action plan. In addition, the delegation elects a chairperson, vice chairperson, and secretary, as well as certain members; if necessary, it also elects the chairperson, vice chairperson, and other members of the board.
LYY submits a proposal to the National Union of Finnish Student Unions (SYL) for the YTHS Delegation; if a candidate is elected, the term of office is two years.
