Welcome to join and celebrate the 38-year-old Student Union of the University of Lapland on the 7th October, 2017!
The ceremony starts with the cocktail party in the city hall (Hallituskatu 7) at 16:00. After the cocktail party, pre-arranged transportation will take us to the main event at 17:30 from the city hall. The evening continues in Hotel Bear’s Lodge at 18:00. The evening ticket for the event is €65 for the Student Union of the University of Lapland members and €75 for non-members.
The signing up for the ball is up until 24th of September. The registration form is only for one person.
Dress code: The proper dress at an annual ball is a full evening dress / a white tie or a dark/lounge suit with academic decorations (e.g. medals or ribbons). Dress code applies during the cocktail party and the main event.
The academic brunch will be held on Sunday the 8th of October. The price of the brunch is €10.

What is annual ball about?
Annual ball (also known as ‘anniversary ball’) is an academic celebration. It is very different to common student events due to its specific dress code and etiquette.
The annual ball consists of the three parts:
1) Cocktail Party. During the cocktail party, the student union receives greetings from invited guests. Cocktail Party is mostly acquainted by board members of the Student Union members from the other Universities, and student associations et cetera.
2) Main Event. All the guests attend the main event. Pre-arranged transportation will be provided for all participants. The main event is a dinner that consist of a three-course meal and special programme. The dinner lasts approximately for five hours. Please note that it is important to remember proper and dignifies manners, listen to the speakers, and pay attention to your company. It is not polite to leave one’s table other times than during a break.
The event begins with the arrival of the flags and the main entourage. Everyone has a predetermined seat. It is possible to inform the organizers your preference regarding seating arrangements. While registering, please write the name of the people you would like to sit with.
3) After Party and the Academic Brunch (also known as ‘herring breakfast’; ‘sillisaamiainen’, or ‘sillis’ in Finnish). Pre-arranged transportation from the main event to the after party will be provided for all quests. The after party and the academic brunch are informal and there is no dress code or etiquette to follow. The academic brunch will be organized the next day.
In this annual ball, you have a chance to meet students and board members from the Student Union of the University of Lapland and from other Student Unions in Finland as well.
